Lesson Plans for Jan. 6-9


Weekly Plans

Spelling: We will not have any new spelling words this week. As a reminder, 3rd nine weeks spelling words and sentences will be graded. Please practice writing sentences with your child. There are examples of dictation sentences on the homework sheet.

 

Reading: This week will be a review of previous skills taught. We will be giving a pre-test in reading. This is not a test that will be recorded in the grade book. This test indicates which skills your child knows and what should be reinforced for this nine weeks.



Math: We will also be giving a pre-test in math. We will begin to learn about place value. Students will learn that 23 has 2 tens and 3 ones or that 55 has 5 tens and 5 ones.

 

Social Science: We will be discussing goal setting for the New Year.

Weekly Plans

Spelling: We will not have any new spelling words this week. As a reminder, 3rd nine weeks spelling words and sentences will be graded. Please practice writing sentences with your child.

 

Reading: There will not be a new reading passage this week. We will be reviewing sounds and

 parts of a story (setting, characters, sequence). We will review grammar like: nouns (common and proper), verbs, and how to place commas correctly in a series. For example: We have a lot of birthdays in November, December, and January. 

 

Math: We will continue to review missing addends and fact families. 

 

Social Science: We will be doing a variety of Christmas crafts and activities.

Lesson Plans for the week of December 8-12


Weekly Plans

Spelling: There will not be a spelling test this Friday. Please practice the words for homework for your child to understand the skill.

Words are: bang, blink, ring, pink, rang, flagpole, inside, backpack, bedtime, lunchbox, an, each

* Please use correct letter formation on spelling homework.

 

Reading: We will learn about the final  -ng as in wing and –nk as in bank. Our reading skill we be plot. Students will also learn about compound words as in raincoat. Our grammar skill will be to learn about commas in a series (I went to the store and bought milk, eggs, and fruit.)  and commas in dates (June 14, 2013).

High-Frequency words are: Review all high-frequency words for the second nine weeks. Test will be December 8th.

 

Math: We will continue to missing addends and fact families. 

 

Social Science: We will learn about Christmas traditions.

Plans for the week of December 1st-5th



Weekly Plans
Spelling: The next spelling test will be December 5th. Please remember that spelling words are graded this nine weeks. The dictation sentences will not be graded, just the words!
Words are: my, by, try, any, body, fly, cry, lucky, silly, puppy, said, there
* Please use correct letter formation on spelling homework.

Reading: Monday, we will start to read, An Egg is an Egg. We will learn about the vowel sounds of /y/ like try or lucky. We will learn about the verbs (action words) in a sentence. We will talk about compare and contrast.
High-Frequency words are: Review all high-frequency words for the second nine weeks.

Math: We will continue to missing addends and fact families. For example: __+7=11, 4 is the missing addend. Fact families are made up with four facts by using 3 of the same numbers. For example: 4+3=7, 3+4=7, 7-4=3, 7-3=4.  

Social Science: We will learn about reindeer.

Lesson Plans for Novmber 17-21


Weekly Plans

Spelling: The next spelling test will be Friday, November 21st. Remember the words are graded but NOT the dictation sentences. Letters that are written backwards makes the word incorrect and the word is counted wrong.

Words are: be, feet, he, see, we, green, me, she, tree, week, all, your

* Please use correct letter formation on spelling homework.

 

Reading: On Tuesday, we will start to read, Honey Bees. We will learn about the long e: /ee/ as in week and /e/ as in he. We will discuss words that have a VCCV pattern as in happen or rabbit.

We will talk about compare and contrast. Our grammar skill will be to find nouns in a sentence.

Please review all High-Frequency words. These words are in your child’s fish notebook. Test will be given soon!

 

Math: We will continue to missing addends and fact families. For example: __+7=11, 4 is the missing addend. Fact families are made up with 4 facts by 3 of the same numbers. For example: 4+3=7, 3+4=7, 7-4=3, 7-3=4.  

 

Social Science: We will talk about Thanksgiving. Please send any resources if you have them.

Spelling: The next spelling test will be Friday, November 14th.  Remember the words are graded but NOT the dictation sentences. Letters that are written backwards makes the word incorrect and the word is counted wrong.

Reading: Our story is Life in the Forest. Students will learn about long /u/ as in huge, long /e/ as in these  and the inflected endings –ed as in spilled (-ed makes the /d/ sound), asked (-ed makes the /t/ sound) and rested (-ed makes the /ed/ sound).  In our story we will learn about author’s purpose for writing stories. Our grammar skill is to learn about adding –s to nouns to make them mean more than one.

High-Frequency words: find, down, did, come, may, long, day, get, made, part

 

Math: We will continue to discuss addends and fact families. Practice adding and subtracting 1 and double (ex: 4+4= 8, 6+6=12) facts. We will also continue to review addition and subtraction.

 

Social Science:  We will learn about air. We will learn how air moves items even when we don’t see it. We will be making parachutes and doing many experiments with air. If you have any resources you would like to send please do!

Reading: Our story is The Big Circle. Students will learn about long /o/ as in bone and contractions as in can’t (can not) or I’m (I am).  In our story, we will learn about sequence. Our grammar skill is to learn about matching nouns to verbs.

Math: We will continue to learn about missing addends (9+___=12, the missing added is 3) and related facts (3+7=10 or 10-7=3).

Reading: Our next story is A Big Fish for Max. Students will learn about the digraphs /sh/ as in ship and /th/ as in thin and the vowel sound in words like ball. In our story we will learn about main idea and predicting. Our grammar skill is to learn about putting words in ABC order.

Math: We will learn about decomposing numbers (subtracting) through using pictures and the number line.

Social Science: We will learn about pumpkins. Please send in an orange piece of poster board.

Reading: We will be reviewing in order to be ready for our Quarter 1 reading test.

Math: We will be reviewing for Quarter 1 math test. Your child should practice adding, 1 more, 2 more, making numbers different ways and solving word problems.

Social Science: Students will learn about the apples and Johnny Appleseed. Please send your assigned apple item by Thursday, October 2nd. If you have any resources on apples please send them.

Weekly Plans

Spelling: The next spelling test will be September 26th. The spelling words and dictation sentences are not graded the 1st nine weeks but IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to establish this routine of studying and testing.

Reading: This week’s story is Animal Park. The genre is photo essay. A photo essay uses photos and words to explain about the real world. Students will also learn about the short /u/ as in cut and final blends as in must. Our comprehension reading skill is cause and effect. In language, we will learn about capitalizing names and dates. For example: Bob Joe turned eleven on August 5, 2014. Please make sure that your child is using correct capitalization and punctuation on homework.

High Frequency Word list is in your child’s notebook. Please review all words.

 

Math: We will be focusing on addition to 20 and making numbers different ways using tally marks, tens frame, and number sentences.

 

Social Science: Students will learn about the season of fall.

Our reading skill is to learn about realism & fantasy and story structure.  In language, we will review declarative (telling sentence) and interrogative (asking/questions) sentences.

Math: We will be making numbers different ways and focusing on concepts of addition. We will work with strategies such as counting on and using a number line. For example: 3+2=5, 2+3=5, 4+1=5, 5+0=5, 2+1+2=5, 3+4+1=8.

 

Social Science: We will be finishing up our balance and motion unit. We also we talk about the habitat of a farm.

Reading: Our story we will read is, “The Big Blue Ox.”  The genre is fantasy. We will learn about the short /o/ as in hop and words with a plural –s as in pots. We will continue to identify the characters and setting of a story. In language, we will learn how to identify and write declarative (telling) sentences.

High Frequency Words (Students are supposed to recognize these words in 3 seconds or less): at, be, this, have, from, or, one, had, by, word

Math: We will continue adding numbers. Our focus will be making numbers and adding 3 numbers together (Example 2+3+1=6.) We will use the strategy of counting on or the number line as a tool.

Our reading skill will be to learn about the difference between reality/fantasy and summarizing. In language, we will learn how to find the naming part of a sentence.
