Spelling: The next spelling test will be September 5th. The spelling
words and dictation sentences are not graded the 1st nine weeks but
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to establish this routine of studying and testing.
Spelling words are: mom, ox, hot, hop, pop, pot,
lock, mop, got, rock, on, are
Reading: Our story we will read is, “The Big Blue Ox.” The genre is fantasy. We will learn about the
short /o/ as in hop and words with a plural –s as in pots. We will continue to
identify the characters and setting of a story. In language, we will learn how
to identify and write declarative (telling) sentences.
High Frequency Words (Students are supposed to recognize
these words in 3 seconds or less): at, be, this, have, from, or, one, had, by,
word
Math: We will continue adding numbers. Our focus will be making
numbers and adding 3 numbers together (Example 2+3+1=6.) We will use the
strategy of counting on or the number line as a tool.
