Lesson Plans for December 2-6

Weekly Plans

Spelling: The next spelling test will be December 6th. Please remember that spelling words are graded this nine weeks. The dictation sentences will not be graded, just the words!

Words are: bring, trunk, pink, bank, sang, wing, rink, blank, rang, sunk, an, each

Please use correct letter formation on spelling homework.

 

Reading: Our story of the week is  Ruby in her Own Time. We will learn about the final  -ng as in wing and –nk as in bank. Our reading skill we be plot. Our grammar skill will be verbs that end with –s like, Ruby swims in the pond. Students will also learn about compound words like raincoat.

High-Frequency words: an, each, been, like, out, people, did, part, my, way, day

 

Math: We will review addition, subtraction and learn more about geometry. We will learn about 2d and 3d shapes. We will talk about how many sides and vertices (points) each shape has. If you would like to bring in a 3d shape from home, please do. J

 

Social Science: We will learn about reindeer.

Reading: On Tuesday, we will start to read, Honey Bees. We will learn about the long e: /ee/ as in week and /e/ as in he. We will discuss words that have a VCCV pattern as in happen or rabbit.

We will talk about compare and contrast. Our grammar skill will be to find nouns in a sentence.

Math: We will continue to discuss addends and fact families. Please review with your child how to count to 100 by 1’s and 10’s. Practice adding and subtracting 1 and double (ex: 4+4= 8, 6+6=12) facts. We will also continue to review addition and subtraction.

 

Social Science: We will learn about weather. Please send any resources if you have them.

Reading: Our story is Life in the Forest. Students will learn about long /u/ as in huge, long /e/ as in these  and the inflected endings –ed as in spilled (-ed makes the /d/ sound), asked (-ed makes the /t/ sound) and rested (-ed makes the /ed/ sound).  In our story we will learn about author’s purpose for writing stories. Our grammar skill is to learn about adding –s to nouns to make them mean more than one.

High-Frequency words: but, not

 

Math: We will continue to discuss addends and fact families. Please review with your child how to count to 100 by 1’s and 10’s. Practice adding and subtracting 1 and double (ex: 4+4= 8, 6+6=12) facts. We will also continue to review addition and subtraction.

 

Social Science:  We will learn about air. We will learn how air moves items even when we don’t see it. We will be making parachutes and doing many experiments with air. If you have any resources you would like to send please do!

Our grammar skill is to learn about proper nouns with special titles like Dr. Harris, Mrs. Polly.

Reading: This week’s story is Animal Park. The genre is photo essay. A photo essay uses photos and words to explain about the real world. Students will also learn about the short /u/ as in cut and final blends as in must. Our comprehension reading skill is cause and effect. In language, we will learn about asking sentences (interrogative) and the structure of a sentence.

Math: We will be focusing on adding 3 numbers through using story problems, pictures, number line and counting on. We will also review making numbers.

 

Social Science: Students will learn about the apples. Johnny Appleseed’s birthday was September 26th so on Friday we will have an apple tasting party. Please send your assigned item by Tuesday, October 1st. If you have any resources on apples please send them.
