Weekly Plans for September 29-October 3


Weekly Plans

 

Spelling: There will be no new spelling words until Monday, October 6th. That means no spelling homework this week!

Reading: We will be reviewing in order to be ready for our Quarter 1 reading test.

Math: We will be reviewing for Quarter 1 math test. Your child should practice adding, 1 more, 2 more, making numbers different ways and solving word problems.

Social Science: Students will learn about the apples and Johnny Appleseed. Please send your assigned apple item by Thursday, October 2nd. If you have any resources on apples please send them.

Lesson Plans for the week of September 22-26


Weekly Plans

Spelling: The next spelling test will be September 26th. The spelling words and dictation sentences are not graded the 1st nine weeks but IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to establish this routine of studying and testing.

Words are: run, cut, must, sun, up, bump, jump, bus, nut, rug, to, is

 

Reading: This week’s story is Animal Park. The genre is photo essay. A photo essay uses photos and words to explain about the real world. Students will also learn about the short /u/ as in cut and final blends as in must. Our comprehension reading skill is cause and effect. In language, we will learn about capitalizing names and dates. For example: Bob Joe turned eleven on August 5, 2014. Please make sure that your child is using correct capitalization and punctuation on homework.

High Frequency Word list is in your child’s notebook. Please review all words.

 

Math: We will be focusing on addition to 20 and making numbers different ways using tally marks, tens frame, and number sentences.

 

Social Science: Students will learn about the season of fall.

Spelling: The next spelling test will be September 19th. The spelling words and dictation sentences are not graded the 1st nine weeks but IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to establish this routine of studying and testing.

Reading: Our story we will read is, Get the Egg! The genre is realistic fiction. Students will also learn about the short /e/ as in egg and initial blends. Our reading skill is to learn about realism & fantasy and story structure.  In language, we will review declarative (telling sentence) and interrogative (asking/questions) sentences.

High Frequency Words: there, use, an, each, which, she, do, how, their, if

 

Math: We will be making numbers different ways and focusing on concepts of addition. We will work with strategies such as counting on and using a number line. For example: 3+2=5, 2+3=5, 4+1=5, 5+0=5, 2+1+2=5, 3+4+1=8.

 

Social Science: We will be finishing up our balance and motion unit. We also we talk about the habitat of a farm.

Reading: Our story we will read is, “A Fox and a Kit.”  The genre is nonfiction. We will learn about the inflected endings –s and –ing. Our reading skill will be to learn about finding the main idea in a story. In language, we will learn about interrogative (asking/questions) sentences.

Lesson Plans

Spelling: The next spelling test will be September 5th. The spelling words and dictation sentences are not graded the 1st nine weeks but IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to establish this routine of studying and testing.

Spelling words are: mom, ox, hot, hop, pop, pot, lock, mop, got, rock, on, are

Reading: Our story we will read is, “The Big Blue Ox.”  The genre is fantasy. We will learn about the short /o/ as in hop and words with a plural –s as in pots. We will continue to identify the characters and setting of a story. In language, we will learn how to identify and write declarative (telling) sentences.

High Frequency Words (Students are supposed to recognize these words in 3 seconds or less): at, be, this, have, from, or, one, had, by, word

Math: We will continue adding numbers. Our focus will be making numbers and adding 3 numbers together (Example 2+3+1=6.) We will use the strategy of counting on or the number line as a tool.

 
Social Science: We will start a unit on how items are balanced and how items move (roll, spin, etc.)

Reading: Our story we will read is, “Pig in a Wig.”  The genre is fantasy. We will learn about the short /i/ as in pig and the final /x/ as in six. Our reading skill will be to learn about the difference between reality/fantasy and summarizing. In language, we will learn how to find the naming part of a sentence.

High Frequency Words (Students are supposed to recognize these words in 3 seconds or less): he, as, was, with, for, his, on, they, are, I

 

 

Math: We will continue making numbers. Our focus will be making numbers to 10 (Example 8+2=2+8.) The number line will be used as a strategy for adding numbers.

Spelling: Our first spelling test will be Friday, August 15. This is a practice test. The spelling words and dictation sentences are not graded the 1st nine weeks but IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to establish this routine of studying and testing.

Reading: Next week, the fiction story we will read is, “Sam, Come Back!” We will learn about the short /a/ as in ran and the final /ck/ as in sack. Our reading skill will be to learn about the characters and setting in the story. In writing, we will start to learn how to write simple sentences.

High Frequency Words (Students are supposed to recognize these words in 3 seconds or less): the, of, and, a, to, in, is, you, that, it

 

 

Math: We will learn about counting to 120, putting numbers in order from least to greatest/greatest to least, and different ways to make numbers (example: 1 and 7 make 8 or 2 and 6 make 8).

 

Social Science: We will start a unit on family. Please send a picture of your family to school.
